Marshall uses photography to serve the community.

First, he volunteers his time to teach photography at the Braille Institute. The class had been led by legendary Life magazine photographer Jack Birns, but was canceled when illness forced Mr. Birns to stop teaching. At the outset, Marshall wasn’t too sure about teaching photography to people who are visually impaired or even completely blind. More than once, Marshall was asked why a blind person would want to take a photography class at all. But through Marshall’s assignments (projects such as portraits, street scenes, painting with light, and even “on-location” shots), a true camaraderie developed. Now, students tell Marshall that they enjoy the hands-on learning style of his classes. He helps his students visualize the image they create. Students use imagination and creativity, and Marshall supplies the eyes. CLICK HERE To Find out how you can volunteer your time at the Braille Institute!
